Donations – Updated

Bill truly appreciates your generosity – but please do not send any Care Packages. Apparently someone sent him a Care Package and it was immediately confiscated. Please just send money orders to the jail or donate in the form of  magazine subscriptions. Roanoke City Jail does not allow books for some silly reason.  Many thanks to whoever sent the Care Package, it was very kind of you – it was just a shame that Bill never received it.

Also, secure drop boxes are located in the visitation lobby at 324 Campbell Avenue and also in the Roanoke City Jail Administrative Office lobby at 317 Church Avenue.

Tradition of the Mother – Revised

Some good news for a change – work is about to begin on a new, revised edition of Tradition of the Mother with typos fixed and assorted other corrections. Hopefully this won’t take too long to fix, and the book will be back in stock again soon.

(nb: I don’t know who Bill is corresponding with here).

I want you to know that despite our cultural differences, there is light in everyone. Me being Christian I truly believe in being non-judgemental. I know where I come from and where I’m at in a conformed society. Yet somehow I feel we are all guilty one way or another due to our demons. You for one are a very cognitive and articulate individual with a keen perception of the world and its social disorders. I’m not saying I totally agree with your beliefs. But I do understand them very well.

I’ve studied Spinoza, Sartre, Kierkegaard, Hegel, Kant and other philosophers. So I am prone to these very issues. You see most people succomb to fear of what is unknown. Yet still to readily accept what is imminent. Although what is relevant is that the struggle for power in today’s world is stronger than ever. So we turn to idealist so called measures of peace. which is nothing more than organized chaos. How can there be peace unless it is in the wake of death. You can’t learn from nothing. But you can learn from anybody or thing. So in regard I thank you for your input in the issues you’ve discussed in relevance to misinformed unstable society. When you are finally released may God be with you in your quest.

Cultural Philistines and 100 Years of the T-Shirt

Cultural Philistinism for those unaware of the term means the following:

“In the fields of philosophy and aesthetics, the term philistinism describes the social attitude of anti-intellectualism that undervalues and despises art, beauty, spirituality, and intellect; “the manners, habits, and character, or mode of thinking of a philistine”. A philistine person is the man or woman who is smugly narrow of mind and of conventional morality whose materialistic views and tastes indicate a lack of and indifference to cultural and aesthetic values.”

The root of decay in the West is an inner one born of obsession with the banal and a devaluation of anything which holds real cultural worth.
